Create a Strong Foundation of a Healthy Smile

We aim to preserve natural teeth whenever possible. However, extractions may be recommended in several situations:
- Severe decay or damage that has compromised too much of the tooth structure
- Advanced gum disease causing significant bone loss around teeth
- Infected teeth that cannot be saved through root canal therapy
- To prepare your mouth for restorations, like implants or dentures
No matter the reason, your dentist will make sure you fully understand the reasoning. We’ll always prioritize saving your tooth before recommending removal.

Dental implants are the ideal solution for replacing missing teeth. However, successful implant placement often requires surgical procedures to create the optimal foundation. Before placing your implants, your dentist may recommend:
- Bone Grafting – If your jaw is too weak, we’ll strengthen it using grafting materials to provide a stable foundation for your implants.
- Ridge Augmentation – A ridge augmentation rebuilds the natural contour of your gums and jaw, creating an ideal site for implant placement.
- Sinus Lift – When placing implants in the upper jaw, you may need a sinus lift to create adequate space and bone volume.

Common Questions About Oral Surgery
You might need oral surgery for a variety of reasons. If you have a damaged or diseased tooth that needs to be extracted, oral surgery will take care of it. A bone graft, sinus lift, or ridge augmentation might be needed to get your mouth ready for implants.
For a healthy recovery, it’s best to ease slowly into exercise. You’ll want to avoid sports, workouts, and most other physical activity for the first 24 hours. Doing too much too soon can impede healing. For example, it can interfere with blood clotting. We recommend taking it easy for at least a few days.
We recommend that you eat soft foods and liquids for two or three days after your surgery. Yogurt, soup, pudding, ice cream, and protein shakes are all good choices. It’s a good idea to avoid spicy foods, acidic foods, crunchy foods, and tough-to-chew foods for a week or so.
